CRICKET: India U-19 lift International Tri-Series
Indian colts proved too hot for Australia U-19, as they recorded a demolishing eight-wicket victory to lift the International Triangular-Series in Marrara Oval.
After the Indian bowlers did a phenomenon job to restrict their counterparts to just 75 runs; the batsmen also stood tall as they chased down this paltry total in the 16th over itself, and remained unbeaten throughout the series.
Indian skipper Vijay Zol, who scored 284 runs in the tournament, was awarded the ‘Man of the Series’ title for his excellent contribution with the bat.
Australia’s Jake Doran, 16, finished second behind Zol, with an aggregate of 195 runs at the tournament.
Another Aussie, Matt Fotia, finished as the highest wicket-taker of the tournament, as he grabbed 10 wickets, while his compatriot Cam Valente finished second with 9 wickets.
Cricket Australia’s (CA) National Talent Manager, Greg Chappell, said that the Australian Cricket fans have a lot of good cricket to witness in the coming few years.
”Doran is the quintessential all-round cricketer for the modern era for he is an accomplished wicket-keeper who also bowls some handy left-arm seamers. He shows enormous potential as a left-hand middle order player in the mould of Michael Hussey,” Chappell said on Jake Doran.
Chappell was also impressed with Cam Valente. “He is a clever medium fast bowler and lower middle order batsman from South Australia. Cam is a competitive young man who has a good understanding of the tactical requirements of the game and is a proven wicket-taker,” he exclaimed.
”Early signs suggest that talent is not the problem. It will come down to how much is learnt from the experiences; then it is down to commitment, desire and execution,” Chappell added.
The next time, we could see the India-Australia Under-19 clash, would be at the quad series in India, where the participant countries include - India, Australia, Zimbabwe, South Africa.
