Olympic games one of the most popular athletic events in the world has been conducted for years of which India has also been a part.The game started in Greece with very few events and later on new events were added and the game has grown into a huge one.
The Indian Olympic association sent the nation’s largest delegation to the London Olympics 2012 in Olympic history. A total of 83 athletes. Men’s hockey was the only team-based sport in which India had its representation in these Olympic game. This was India’s most successful Olympics in terms of total medal tally. Two medals each were awarded to the athletes in shooting and wrestling.Badminton player and world junior champion Saina Nehwal became the first Indian athlete to win an Olympic bronze medal in the women’s singles badminton, Mary Kom, won the bronze in women’s flyweight boxing event.Abhinav Singh Bindra won the first ever Gold medal in the 10 m air rifle event in an individual event for India in Olympics at Beijing Olympics 2008.
Now India has waken up and has started working to improve its position in the Olympics.The government has risen up and started funding schools, college and organizations in finding young talented one’s.The government has initiated setting up and funding of sports schools and colleges.Nowadays the athletes have been provided with good coaches, healthy foods and good facilities as required .The athletes have been taken to participate in events outside India thus providing them a chance to compete with athletes across the world .
The government should take plans to avoid political interference and other malpractices such as drug abuse etc in sports. The spirit of Olympic games is depicted through the motto ,‘Altius ,Citius,Fortius’ which means ‘higher , faster, stronger’ this should be kept in mind and start working together to improve games in India . Let’s hope for India performing better in future Olympics.
