Lewis Hamilton wins his fourth Hungarian Grand Prix
Lewis Hamilton clinched his fourth win at Hungaroring circuit with an impressive drive on a scorching Sunday afternoon. Hamilton took the chequered flag 10.9 seconds ahead of Finn Kimi Raikkonen. The Lotus driver held off a late charge by Sebastian Vettel to finish second. It was expected to be a tough race for Hamilton as Mercedes had tyre problems and engine overheating problems in previous races but he drove skillfully to clinch his first victory of the season.
Hamilton made a great start but his team mate Nico Rosberg dropped from fourth to twelfth in the opening lap. Rosberg later retired due to a blown engine. Hamilton gained significant time over Vettel after the first pit stop as Button held off Vettel for 12 laps.Webber opted for medium tyres at the start and his gamble paid off in the end as he finished in fourth position. Romain Grosjean, who started in third place, had an eventful afternoon as he first collided with Button and then was handed a drive through penalty for veering off the track. He finished the race in sixth position just behind Ferrari’s Fernando Alonso who came in fifth. Finn Kimi Raikkonen who started the race in sixth place managed his tyres really well in his two stop strategy to finish second.
Jenson button also opted for two stop strategy and finished seventh ahead of Brazilian Felipe Massa. It was the third race this season in which Force India failed to register a point. Adrian Sutil retired after 19 laps due to a hydraulic leak while his team mate Paul di Riesta retired two laps from the finish. Mercedes were on the back foot coming into this race as they were not allowed to test out new Pirelli tyres as punishment for secret tyre test with Pirelli. Despite this disadvantage and other problems like tyre,engine issues Hamilton was able to secure his first win as Mercedes driver. Hamilton is now in fourth place with 124 points in overall standings, while Vettel still leads with 172 points. Kimi Raikkonen is in second place with 134 points. The next race is Belgium Grand Prix on 25th August as the F1 goes in for a mid season break.
