FIXED MEETING

FIXED MEETING

In what seemed to be an expected outcome, the working committee meeting of the BCCI rightly proved so. Before the meeting took place in Calcutta, lots of hype was around over the fate of Srinivasan, his docked son-in-law Gurunath Mayappan & his franchise Chennai Super Kings. There were other issues as well especially much awaited verdict on Rajasthan Royals’ owner Raj Kundra’s fate & three cricketer’s involvement in spot-fixing during IPL. Right from the outset, BCCI waited for the report of the Delhi & Mumbai Police regarding the case & didn’t take any action until everything proved right. It was clear that Sreesanth, Chandila & Amit Singh were clearly involved, directly or indirectly, into the match-fixing. Gurunath & Kundra’s betting evidence was also seen. As a cricket administrator, who are expected to take any sort of action against illegal activities, here proved as a toothless tiger. Betting in cricket is not legal in our country by any means & where the accused themselves confessed to the cops that they did bet on certain matches, as an administrator, you are not expected to pass the buck & give the ball to players’ court.
BCCI’s strategy of tackling the issue clearly paved the way for Srinivasan to be back at the helm once again. Mayappan & two of the Royals’ players are out on bail & Delhi & Mumbai police don’t seem to have enough to nail them. BCCI appointed two retired judges to take this into account but what can you expect from them to do? But one positive one can take from this meeting is Dalmiya’s approach towards players’ involvement into any sports management company, which surrounded Dhoni’s involvement into Rhiti Sports. But once Srinivasan is back, you can’t expect this issue to surge enough and everyone to come clean, if any. As of now, pitch is prepared for powerplay & a waiting game for the next meeting in Delhi.
