Do Real Madrid really need this Galactico?

This summer’s transfer window is dominated by reports of Gareth Bale’s imminent transfer to Real Madrid and it seems that it is only a matter of days before Gareth Bale becomes a Real Madrid player. Bale was truly magnificent last season, single-handedly dragging Tottenham Hotspur to the cusp of Champions League football. Based on last season’s performance, we can say that Bale was arguably the 3rd best footballer in the world behind the two behemoths, namely Cristiano Ronaldo and Lionel Messi.

But the million dollar question (in this case billion dollar would be more appropriate considering the amount Real Madrid are willing to pay Spurs to land the star man) is whether the Los Blancos really need to bring Bale to the Santiago Bernabeu. After losing out on Neymar’s signature to their bitter rivals Barcelona, Real Madrid need a blockbuster signing of their own to appease their demanding fans and there is none better than Bale. With their unlimited financial strength they can literally buy any player.

The primarily left-footed Bale’s preferred playing position is left wing but Madrid have a certain Ronaldo playing at this position. So will it be possible to accommodate the two star players in the same team. Ronaldo is equally adept in playing on the right flank but he is particularly devastating when he operates from the left side and is it logical to play your best player out of position. True that both the players can switch positions in the course of the game or one of them can play in the central role but Bale’s effectiveness gets restricted if he plays out of position.

So as the world waits patiently for Gareth Bale to become the newest Galactico, there is some apprehension if the two star men can shine together. Nevertheless it would be a mouth watering prospect for the Madridistas and the neutrals to see the two players play alongside each other and torment opponent defences day in and day out.
