Galatasaray beats Arsenal to lift Emirates Cup

Didier Drogba who had been Arsenal’s nemesis during his stay at Chelsea proved that he has not lost his touch as he scored a brace to help the Turks win Emirates Cup.
Arsenal started the match without in form striker Giroud who was replaced by new signing 20 year old Yaya Sanogo. Santi Cazorla made his first start of pre season after missing out on the Asian tour.
The match started in a bright manner for Arsenal as Sanogo almost had a dream debut when he came close to scoring inside the first minute.
Gunners slowly settled into the groove and started dominating the match. Ramsey was impressive in his central midfield role and made some good runs in the attacking half.
Walcott got an opportunity to break the deadlock from Ramsey’s brilliant 30 yard pass but he shot it just wide of the goal post.
Arsenal continued to press forward and their efforts were rewarded when Walcott’s seemingly innocuous cross in the 39th minute found the back of net.
Arsenal went into the break with a lead of 1-0.
Galatasaray made some changes in second half and Sneijder,Drogba came on as substitutes.
The twin introduction improved the game play of Turkish side but Arsenal were still dominant.
Olivier Giroud was introduced a little later and he came straight into the action when his header was saved by Muslera.
Oxlade-Chamberlain then impressed with a great run into the box but he was brought down and to the utter surprise of home fans penalty appeal was rejected.
Galatasaray then sprung into action and Sneijder made a great effort from 25 yards out to bring about a fine save from Szczesny.
In the 78th minute referee Jon Moss made the most controversial decision of the match as he awarded a penalty for Ignasi Miquel’s slight nudge on Drogba.
Drogba then stepped up to take the penalty and calmly slotted past Scczesny.
Arsene Wenger then brought Podolski and Walcott to snatch a late winnner. But Drogba was there to spoil the party as he latched on to Sneijder’s cross with a great first touch and then struck the ball into the net.

Arsenal’s performance was dismal in the tournament and they desperately need reinforcements if they are serious about ending their eight year trophy drought.
