I miss being in the ring: Mary Kom

BOXING: London Olympics bronze-medalist, MC Mary Kom, who gave birth to her third child a few weeks back, says that staying away from the boxing ring makes her unhappy.

"It was this time last year and I’m feeling nostalgic. I miss being in the ring. But now I am a new mother and that is a happiness of another kind," the 5-time World Champion exclaimed.

"Looking after the kids keeps us busy. The twins and Prince are getting along quite well. The elders are teaching their younger one ‘Gangnam Style’," she further quipped.

"I weigh something around 60 kgs today. A boxer’s life is guided by the weighing scale. But now I am only chilling out and I don’t care about watching my weight so much.

"It will be another three months before I step out and even then it will be more about physical fitness for six to eight months. Once I am back in shape, only then can I think of stepping in the ring. For now, there are no more bouts to fight.

"Nothing can be bigger than the Olympics. I am fortunate to have been able to test myself at that level. But my aim was the gold and I could not fulfill it. I’m looking ahead to the Rio Games with the gold medal as a goal. In London, I did not fight in my weight category (48 kg). I fought in the 50 kg category. In Rio, they are adding three more weight categories to the existing three. If they introduce a 48 kg category, I think I can really get the gold. I still have the will."
