CONTRASTING RISE

India & England, two countries where cricket is considered a respected sport. Culture of the game is very contrasting in these two nations but the passion & commitment towards it is similar. Cricketers of both the countries have been a legend over the years. While India starts to play the game in 1934, England mastered the game since 1880s. Time has changed the cricket & its surroundings over the years. Now cricket besides being a religion in India, it’s highly commercial also. Whereas in England, cricket is played passionately but not as commercially successful as India but still very much part of its culture.

It’s irrelevant to compare the cricket culture of both the countries. Yes, since the advent of T20s, India has made its cricket connected to wide range of corporates & a part of entertainment which later adopted by many countries but the passion & commitment haven’t been reduced by a margin. Indian cricket board is richest in the world & people must consider the fact that cricket is the only sport in India which makes so much revenue along with popularity every year through various channels. Whereas in England, cricket is not commercial & the reason behind that is people respects the game & there are numerous sports which make business in the country. Their players are not famous in page 3 or associated with brands unlike Indian cricketers, but the team success of both nations depends on the on-field performances not on glamor or book covers. Yes, as far as Test cricket’s popularity is concerned, India is lagging behind England & necessary steps need to be taken to make it upto the mark. Cricket on the rise at the moment in both the countries & possibly India & England are top two teams at the moment who are dominating the cricket world. The reason behind it the respective cultures, good leaders & passion. If cultures had to be the same, then no country would have been on downfall or on the rise.

You also cant deny the element of jealousy in the way ECB has always looked down upon T20 in general and IPL in particular. Its a classic case of sour grapes.

it's not jealousy my friend. they have better cricket infrastructure than us. they r financially sound. it's just that England are passionate about saving the heritage of cricket & IPL, we all know, is the breeding ground of corruption so that's y they r wary of that.
