Roberto Soldado completes move to Tottenham from Valencia

While Tottenham Hotspur are in a tussle with Real Madrid over the transfer of Gareth Bale, they have completed the signing of Spanish striker Roberto Soldado for a club record of £26m after the striker passed a medical. The Spurs have been active this transfer window with the signing of Soldado followed by the acquisitions of the talented Brazilian midfielder Paulinho and Belgian winger Nacer Chadli. With these signings Spurs have strengthened considerably and have signalled their intent of challenging the big boys of Premier League and prepare for life without Gareth Bale.

Tottenham’s record signing Roberto Soldado needs no introduction. A technically astute player, he is one of the most clinical finishers of world football and in each of his three seasons at his previous club Valencia, he has always scored 25 goals and over while netting 30 goals in 46 appearances in his last season. The 28-year-old striker began his career at Real Madrid, but three years ago he moved back to his hometown club of Valencia, where his performances earned him a regular place in the Spain squad.

Soldado, who could make his debut in Saturday’s friendly against Espanyol, will complete with Jermain Defoe and Emmanuel Adebayor for a place in the starting XI, although doubts have been raised over whether the latter two will be at White Hart Lane by the start of the season. With Gareth Bale on the verge of departing for Real Madrid, Roberto Soldado is poised to become the new talisman of Tottenham Hotspur.
