Hottest young midfielders to watch out for
1) Adam Maher (PSV Eindhoven and Netherlands)
This Dutch wunderkind has never looked back since making his first-team debut for AZ Alkmaar against BATE Borisov in a Europa League encounter on the 15th of December 2010. At the age of 17 years and 147 days, Maher became the youngest Eredivisie player to ever score in the Europa League.
The 19 year old had dominated midfield battles and lit up games last term, whilst also scoring and creating a number of important goals along the way. Technically excellent, comfortable with both feet and with a commanding confidence, he’s not afraid to seek possession anywhere on the pitch. His exceptional range of passing, both in variation and accuracy, combined with close control, movement and intelligence, make him unlike many teenage sensations, in having hype that is genuinely warranted.
2) Julian Draxler (Schalke 04 and Germany)
Despite being only 19, Julian Draxler is one of the most explosive talents of world football. Already an integral part of one of the Bundesliga’s top teams, this attacking midfielder is a pure class act. His impressive performances for Schalke have attracted interest from the big clubs of Europe. A midfielder with an eye for goal he has magnificent technique, a flawless touch and formidable vision, meaning he is on course to become a regular member in the German squad for years to come.
3) Paul Pogba (Juventus and France)
Paul Pogba is best described as a powerful, skilful, and creative player who has an eye for goal and a penchant for the spectacular. Disappointed at the lack of first-team football at Manchester United, the Frenchman headed for Italian champions Juventus as a free transfer.A curious decision on his part, considering that the Bianconeri’s midfield was one of the strongest in the world and everybody thought that even in Juventus he would struggle to get first-team football. But how wrong was everyone.
It’s been little over 10 months since Pogba landed in Serie A, but he’s already an established star. Twenty-seven appearances in the league have cemented his reputation as an excellent midfielder, one with an all-round game and the ability to be effective up and down the pitch. He had also starred in the recently concluded Under-20 World Cup and helped France become the champion.
