PV Sindhu loses in World Championship Semi-finals, settles for Bronze
PV Sindhu failed to become the first Indian to enter into finals of World Championships after losing out to World No. 3 Ratchanok Intanon.
Despite this defeat she became only the third Indian to win bronze in World Championships after Prakash Padukone in men’s singles in 1983 and women’s doubles team of Jwala Gutta and Ashwini Ponnapa in 2011.
Ratchanok Intanon of Thailand beat Sindu 21-10,21-13 in 36 minutes to enter the finals and became the first shuttler from Thailand to be assured of at least a silver medal.
A series of unforced errors by Sindhu and some great smash shots by Thailand International resulted in a comfortable win in the first game for Intanton.
Even in the second game, Sindhu was unable to improve upon her performance from first game and frustration of not performing up to her highest level clearly showed on her face.
The Indian shuttler was unable to play her natural game as Ratchanok kept her in check with clever use of deceptive shots. The 18 year old Indian could not replicate her performance of last two rounds where she defeated two former World No. 1 shuttlers Wang Yihan and Wang Shixian in pre quarterfinals and quarterfinals respectively.
This is the second consecutive loss for Sindhu at hands of Ratchanok.
She lost 21-12 21-6 to the Thai in Yonex sunrise Open earlier in the year.
