World Championships Day 6 medal winners
The day 6 of the World Championships witnessed some of the finest talents of World Athletics securing emphatic victory and justifying their claim to be the best in their respective fields.
Immensely talented Bohdan Bondarenko of Ukraine missed the World record but nonetheless cruised to the Men’s Long Jump victory. Olympic bronze medallist Mutaz Essa Barshim of Qatar and Canada’s Derek Drouin picked up silver and bronze respectively.
In Women’s Triple Jump, Colombia’s Caterine Ibargüen reigned supreme as Russia’s Yekaterina Koneva settled for silver. Pre-tournament favourite Ukrainian Olha Saladuha could only win the bronze.
Twice Olympic Champion Kenyan Ezekiel Kemboi won his third consecutive 3000m steeplechase world title after a close win over his teammate Conseslus Kipruto. Frenchman Mahiedine Mekhissi-Benabbad won the bronze.
Trinidad and Tobago’s Jehue Gordon won his nation’s first world championship gold for 16 years when he pipped USA’s Michael Tinsley to the world 400 metres hurdles title by a hundreth of a second in a lunging finish. Bronze medal went to Serbia’s Emir Bekric.
Czech Republic’s Zuzana Hejnova won the Women’s 400m with American duo Dalilah Muhammad and 2011 champion Lashinda Demus picking up silver and bronze.
In Women’s 1500m, Sweden’s Ethiopian-born Abeba Aregawi won the gold. Defending champion Jennifer Simpson of USA and Kenya’s Hellen Obiri took the silver and the bronze respectively.
