Cincinnati Masters Men's Quarter Final Preview

Cincinnati Masters Men's Quarter Final Preview

In what is expected to be 4 blockbuster quarter finals, all of the big four made it to the quarter finals. While Djokovic has the chance to become a career golden master, winning a title at each of the 9 masters venues, Federer will look to redeem himself. While Nadal will look to continue his unbeaten hard court run, Murray would like to be in a good form going into the US open, starting late this month. Here is the line up.

Novak Djokovic vs John Isner : World No 1 has been in scratchy form lately, being well short of his best. But he is peaking at the right moment before the upcoming US open. While he was made to work in the 2nd round, he trashed Goffin in the third round, losing only 2 games. American John Isner is the highest ranked US player in the ATP circuit. He is having a good comeback since his injury in Wimbledon. He overcame 2 seeded opponents in the initial rounds(Gasquet and Raonic) on his way to quarter finals.

My prediction: Djokovic goes past in 3 sets.

D Tursunov vs Del Potro : Del Potro is definitely in form of his life, considering the way he is playing this year. Even in this tournament, he has played some good tennis to overcome campaingers like Davydenko and F Lopez. Tursonov has relatively had an easier draw, which was due to James Blake defeating big-server Jerzy Janowicz. Del Potro will be the overwhelming favourite going into the match.

My prediction : Del Potro wins in 2 sets.

Rafael Nadal vs Roger Federer : It is going to be a block buster Friday, and this clash is definitely the icing on the cake. It is chapter no 31 between the two greatest players of their era. While Federer’s age is eventually catching upon him, he will try to redeem himself going into the US open. Nadal has looked in prime form since his injury return( with exception of the wimbledon first round exit). He proved he is no pushover in hard courts, by winning the Montreal masters, defeating Djokovic on the way to the title. While Federer would like to gain some confidence by defeating his arch rival, Nadal would like to continue his hard court winning streak and go into US open as one of the favourites.

My prediction : Rafa goes through in 3 sets.

Andy Murray vs Thomas Berdych: Andy Murray has been in quiet since his historic wimbledon victory. He crashed out of Montreal losing to Ernst Gulbis. While he has looked good in this tournament, one cannot underestimate Berdych. The big-server has been a party crasher for quite some time and it won’t be a surprise if he pulls of a victory against Murray.

My prediction : Berdych edges past in 3 sets.
