Baichung Bhutia
Baichung Bhutia is one of the famous Indian footballer.He played for India as a striker. He is often nicknamed the SikkimeseSniper because of his excellent shooting skills in football.He has played a great role in bring out football to new heights in India.He has played for the country as a striker and he is seen as a God’s gift to football in our country. His international football honours include winning the Nehru Cup, LG Cup, SAFF Championship three times and the AFC Challenge Cup. He is also India’s most capped player, and in the 2009 Nehru Cup he received his 100th international cap.He has scored many goals for the country and played for many clubs in the country.
Bhutia has started many foundation for the upliftment of football in our country.He started the "Indian Sports Foundation" to help footballers overcome serious injuries.The Sikkimese government built a stadium the Baichung stadium to honour the player for his contribution to the football in India .He is very popular in our country and is considered as a role model to many Football players in our country.In 2008 he was awarded the Padma Shri for his contribution to Indian football .He was the first Indian sportsman to refuse to carry the Olympic torch in 2008 to show his support to Tibetans.
Despite of the low facilities available in our country he was able to make use of every opportunity to bring out a magnificiant striker out of him.He is a player who needs to be respected for helping the game to reach new dimensions.He is a real gift to our nation and lets hope to see many more such players.
