The 'Deco Turf' test begins (US Open 2013)
While Sania Mirza (India) and Jia Zheng (China) lifted the New Haven’s cup doubles title (overcoming a break point in the first set) , some 80 miles from Yale, the US Open 2013 is about to commence at the Flushing meadows in just few more hours. The last of the Grand Slam titles, this year, it would be exhilarating to watch who would triumph the different ‘Deco Turf’ and bag the ending glories of the Grand Slam season 2013.
Wud it be the defending champion, Andy Murray’s bid? Well there is good probability he just might snatch the pebble from every other hand. Making it to the finals of the Australian open and bagging the Wimbledon in post ecstatic manner, the Scot must be in good books of many in this tournament.
Coming to think of the poignant issue of Roger Federer slipping to 7th seed (He’s not in the top three for the first time in 5 years), it can never be predicted as to what this magic-man can do and better his record of 17 Grand Slam titles. During the period of 5 years from 2003 to 2008, the Swiss had monopolistic power over the title, so not many balls can be out of the court to make Roger Federer not win this one.
Juan Martin Del Potro can prove himself to be the perfect dark horse. Ensuring his win in the last month’s City Open at Washington D.C., he’s not in a bad form to not-perform on the hard surface. How can one forget that it was this highest ranked Argentine who upset the winning streak of Federer in 2009, (and much credit can be given to him, because since then nobody has defended the title thus making it the most dubious titles of all)
Amidst all the players, the Serbian in no way can be acknowledged of a lesser glory. With seed No. 1 for the title, Novak Djokovic has played in all the 3 finals prior to this, would be determined to make to his 4th and win the Championship as well. With the Australian Open under his belt and issuing a brilliant play in the previous two Grand slams, it can be zeroed that the Serb is going to play all the tricks up his sleeve to snatch this one.
Finally to mention of, with the 1000 ATP masters titles of Montreal and Cincinnati if there is one person you are to be wary of on the hard turf this time is Rafael Nadal. Making it to the 2010 and 2011 finals and winning the prior and seeded No. 2 make the Spaniard’s odds pretty high to gamble with in this coming fortnight. In all he might just clench away the Flushing Meadows and all that there is with his persistent base line strong game play.
Upfront on the Women’s singles, Serena Williams is the unputdownlable favourite of the statisticians as well as non-statisticians worldwide. She has a 4-2 number in the finals and if a firm hand doesn’t arise against her the defending champion might just make it 5-2. With Sharapova bowing out of the tournament due to her shoulder injury and Marion Bartoli officially announcing her retirement, Serena’s chances just got better to make her championships count to 17 , and be in line with Martina Navratilova’s 18 and Steffi Graf’s 22.
Well so here’s the blazing, knock-you-off-your-seats championship coming up. With no defending Champions to brag off about and all the tricky turf to test the feet and handoff the players US Open 2013 would be a relish to watch for.
