Peace, after Day 1 at the Meadows

So, the first day of the fortnight ended with no surprises with Rafael Nadal, Serena Williams, Richard Gasquet, Jelena Jankovic, David Ferrer took the next step towards the title. Serena bettered her match winning record to a 65-3, that too in style (6-0, 6-1) over the Italian Francesca Schavione in an hour, while Rafa took his hard court wins to an 11-0 (in the road to US Open) by beating the American R.Harrison in straight sets. Venus Williams too advanced to the 2nd round by registering her win over the 12th seeded Belgian Kirsten Flipkens in straight sets (6-1, 6-2).

Day 2 is due in a few more hours and it would be an interesting ordeal to watch for, as the defending champions of 2012 Samantha Stosur and Novak Djokovic prepare to commence their tournament over Victoria Duval and Richard Berankis, respectively. The second seeded Victoria Azarenka is also game tonight at the Arthur Ashes Stadium. Not to forget Roger Federer takes on the Slovenian Grega Zemlja in a matter of few more hours at the Flushing Meadows. Other important matches would be that of Caroline Wozniacki who can be a potent threat in the Round of 16, as she takes on the Chinese Ying Duan, and another to look for would be at court 17, the 2004 champion Svetlana Kuznetsova, the 27th seeded Russian might just add spice to the later days of the Tournament.

Well that’d be much from the Dugout, stay tuned at www.sportalink.com for all that would take place at NY, for a detailed analysis you might just visit the Official US Open website www.usopen.org
