Us Open Men's 4th Round preview- Part 1
And so here we are down to the final 16. While the "big four" of the tennis breezed past the first few rounds, the same cannot be said for many of the seeds, who were knocked out quite early. The biggest upset till now is the defeat of 2009 champion Juan Martin Del Potro to another former champion, Lleyton Hewitt. He has had a dream run in this tournament, but let us now look at the male players who will lock horns today.
1. David Ferrer vs Janko Tipsarevic : The clay specialist David Ferrer has had a fair tournament till now. But considering the fact that 2 of the 3 opponents he has faced till now are fellow spaniards, it is safe to say that he is yet to be tested. And Tipsarevic is probably his first big test. The 2012 quarterfinalist will surely would like to repeat his performance. Even his performance has been modest, but effective nevertheless. It will be a even-contested battle, but I would put my money on Tipsarevic.
My Take : Tipsarevic wins in 5 sets.
2. Roger Federer vs Tommy Robredo : Well, first of all, all the attention is on possible Federer-Nadal quarterfinal clash. But first, both of them have to overcome their 4th round opponents. As far as Federer is concerned, he has had a perfect tournament till now. He won all the three rounds without dropping a set. Considering his age, it is a very dominating performance indeed. His opponent, Robredo, has had a modest tournament. He had a relatively easy first two rounds and in third, ended the dream run of British Dan Evans, who defeated Benard Tomic in his 2nd round match. Now, Federer is an overwhelming favourite to win the match. But who knows, Tommy might have some tricks in his bag.
My take : Federer wins in 3 sets.
3.Richard Gasquet vs Milos Raonic : Gasquest has quitely reached to 4th round without gaining any attention. The french player has been in good form throughout the year, and would like to end the year with a good performance. His opponent, Milos Raonic, has really been a revealation this year, breaking into top 10 rankings for the first time of his career. The big serving was stretched to 4 sets by experienced F.Lopez, but his big-serves could be too hot to handle for Gasquet. Probably this match will be the most evenly contested match for the day.
My take : Gasquet wins in 5 sets.
4. Rafael Nadal vs P Kolhschriber : Rafael Nadal is in roaring form. He is yet to be beaten in hard-courts this year. As respecting the tagline of being the favourite, he stood up well, progressing to 4th round without dropping his serve. Kolhschriber has been quite impressive, considering his 3rd round victory against crowd favourite John Isner. But it would be difficult to say whether he might have any chance to overcome the spanish bull.
My take : Nadal wins in 3 sets.
