US Open Men's 4th round preview : Part 2
Well, it was quite a night. As I expected, Nadal and Gasquet went into the semi-finals, whereas David Ferrer overcame Tipsarevic challenge to book a place into the last four. But the biggest upset of all was Roger Federer getting knocked out by Tommy Robredo, who has never beat him. The fact that he was knocked out in straight sets by a player who predominantly plays well in clay, shows that Federer’s glory days might be well behind him. Anyways, we have 4 more round 4 matches, and let us take a look at the remaining line-up.
Mikhail Youzhny vs Lleyton Hewitt : A battle of two players both aged above 30. Youzhny has been impressive in his comeback after being hampered with injuries for the better part of the last year. The Russian has played well in this tournament, dropping only one set till now. He upseted the 12th seed Tommy Haas, which should give him a lot of confidence. But the man whom he is facing is definitely brimming with confidence. Hewitt, though has drastically cut-down the tournaments he plays, but he is giving his best tennis in the grandslams. He defeated Del-Potro in the second round. Mind you, he is the same Del-Potro who stretched Djokovic to 5 sets. So, technically and age-wise, both the players are equally matched. It will be a hell of a contest.
My take : Hewitt wins in 5 sets.
Novak Djokovic vs M Granollers : There are considerable no of spaniards in the 4th round draw. And Granollers is possibly the most unexpected one. The fact that he had to play 3 consecutive 5 setters, and winning all the three of them, is a big achievement indeed. But it is a matter of time before one runs out of steam. And when you see that your opponent is none other than world no 1 Djokovic, your chances will be considerably down. Djokovic has been in his usual best. Unless Granollers come up with a miraculous performance, it has to be a walk in the park for Djokovic.
My take: Djokovic wins in 3 sets.
T Berdych vs S Wawrinka : It is quite a surprising fact that Wawrinka is the last remaining Swiss in a major tournament, considering the fact that his fellow player is considered as one of the greatest to ever play the game. Nevertheless, times change, so has been Wawrinka’s form. He has played well to reach till 4th round, inspite of his erratic form throughout the year. He is up against big-serving Berdych, who was a semi-finalist last year. He is yet to drop a set in this tournament, and will favour his chances to win the match.
My Take : Berdych wins in 4 sets.
Andy Murray vs D Istomin : Istomin is indeed having a great run. He defeated 2 seeds to come into 3rd matches. Though it might be quite a huge task to stand up against the defending champ, Andy Murray. He is yet to face a major test, and it would be intresting as to how well Istomin can challenge him.
My Take : Murray wins in 3 sets.
