The GARETH BALE SAGA: Who was really most benefited - Spurs Madrid or ARSENAL?

Gareth Bale’s record breaking move from Tottenham Hotspurs might be the one most people were expecting to be the highlight of the summer transfer window but was it really what both Spurs and Real Madrid needed? True that he was one of the deadliest players in front of goal in the Premier League for the last two seasons but what was really not expected from Real Madrid in return was that they sell one the best midfielders in the the world to the North London Club’s arch rivals Arsenal.
If one really explores the fact that European clubs tend to spend that kind of money for quality players then certainly Real Madrid is the club everyone expects would splash the cash. And Arsenal with their manager Arsene Wenger’s philosophy of developing young squad certainly are or rather were, never expected to raise the bar in terms of spending money. But it is quite evident that Wenger has played a trump in this case.
He had been studying the situation, analyzing the facts, going through transfer history books and when the time came played a winning bet. He knew all along with Madrid’s history of signing expensive players that they would be willing to sell some players so as to make some room for the new boy. But what nobody expected was that this would help Arsenal.
Tottenham’s chairman Daniel Levy knew after the disappointing end to last season’s UCL qualification race that they once again lost to Arsenal that Bale would force a move out. He tried his best. Starting spending money he knew he and Spurs would get after selling Bale to Madrid, bought some quality players one by one. The figures rose and as soon as it was realized that the limit of money that Tottenham can spend has been surpassed and it was known that Bale would be moving out, Wenger started planning the right move. Spurs before letting Bale out had become the highest spenders in the market with players worth more than 110 Million Pounds already bought. They were making a statement. They had plans without Bale. Some said with the quality now bought in they would be challenging for the title.
But what followed after Bale’s departure was unexpected. First came the loss to Arsenal and the very next day that is on the Transfer Deadline Day, Ozil moving to the Emirates. Definitely some eyebrows were raised, the situation was completely different. What Spurs Chief Executive had planned and what had eventually happened was the least he was expecting.
Now, the Spurs’s best player is gone and a quality player that has the capability to become the best player of North London has arrived in North London but not at White Hart Lane. One would argue that even if Spurs had sold Bale for half or even quarter of that money and got Ozil in a player exchange deal, that could have been the transfer of the summer.
But now Ozil joining the likes of Wilshere Cazorla and now in the best of forms Ramsey has made Arsenal’s midfield certainly the deadliest in the country if not in Europe. And with the top three clubs in the EPL Manchester City Manchester United and Chelsea going through transition in managers and Spurs starting with a whole new squad, everyone expects Arsenal to be major challengers for the title this season and not Spurs. So now the question which has put even the best footballing pundits in dilemna is who was really the most benefited club from the Bale transfer?
