Shikar Dhawan : Another Feather to his newly-overcrowding cap

Shikar Dhawan : Another Feather to his newly-overcrowding cap

One would not say this was not completely un-expected, even then, it is a great step forward for Dhawan to get the role of captaining SRH. He is having a phenomenal year, and showing such a faith in him would only boost his confidence, and inturn the confidence of the team.

After hearing the news of his appointment as the captain, I was wondering whether he ever had any captaincy experience at all. But as it turns out, he did captain the Delhi-Ranji team for quite a few times.

So, one might be wondering- why Dhawan? Why not Sangakkara? As of fact, Sangakkara is playing for his country’s domestic outfit-Kandurata Maroons. Even then, it was Cameroon White who captained SRH for play-offs, why not him?

As I said, the reason, or what I feel, is that the Team management expects that his brilliant batting form rubs-off to his team mates via his captaincy. Now this makes Dhawan’s choice a great one, since as far as Cameroon and Sammy is considered, they are not even in their respective national team in a regular basis.

Now looking forward to the upcoming CLT20 qualifiers, Shikhar Dhawan has a pretty decent team under his disposal, with a bowling attack possibly the second best after the Mumbai Indians. The batting order looks a tad- weak, but I hope that Dhawan takes up the responsibility as the captain pretty lightly, and hopefully, it does not affect his performance.

Considering the teams the SRH will face in the qualifiers, their batsmen, especially Dhawan, needs to play an important role to earn a qualification to the main draw. They will be facing a strong Pakistani domestic team, Faisalabad wolves, Otago Volts under the leadership of aggressive Mccullum, and will be facing Sri Lankan team Kandurata Maroons tomorrow.

It will be intresting to see how the SRH team performs under Dhawan, who would like to add more skills to his cricket "resume" .
