Champions League Group Stage Gets Underway

The UEFA Champions League proper returns to action as the round 1 of group stage starts tonight.

The Big Match: Galatasaray v/s Real Madrid
The most expensively assembled team ever in the history of football takes on the Turkish team in a repeat of last season’s Quarter Final. Carlo Ancelotti’s side begin their assault on the fabled La Decima with a potentially tricky trip to Turkey. Galatasaray boast a fine recent record in Istanbul, losing only two of their last 14 home European matches. Yet, with a rampant Ronaldo on a run of 21 goals in his previous 19 Champions League matches, the Turkish side face a tough challenge in securing a repeat success.

Tonight’s other big games include defending champions Bayern Munich hosting CSKA Moscow at the Allianz Arena, Manchester United at home against a dangerous Bayer Leverkusen side, Manuel Pellegrini’s Manchester City away at Victoria Plzen, Juventus travelling to Denmark to play against FC Kopenhagen and nouveau riche Paris St. Germain away against the formidable Greek side Olympiakos.
