Adnan Januzaj - Is he the new star for ManUtd
"Adnan Januzaj Reportedly Set for Huge New Manchester United Contract" were the headlines of the Sunday Editions of most of the British Newspapers after the 18 year old’s splendid performance against Sunderland scoring both the two goals in a much needed come from behind victory. It was a stark contrast in context of the player’s popularity as his name was almost unheard of in the professional game.
He is Belgian, but may not play for Belgium. Born in Brussels, his parents are from Kosovo and Albania – with the latter reportedly his preferred choice for international honours. Call ups to various Belgium age-group teams have been rejected by him and now Roy Hodgson is eyeing him up for England. He is left-footed, has a "keen to take set-pieces" attitude and good dribbling abilities, probably one of the most exciting prospects of future, and certainly the one to watch out for wherever he decides to play.
He has been described by Sir Alex Ferguson as ‘a beautifully-balanced player. He also mentioned, He’s only 18 and has to grow into his frame and has good balance, good acceleration and is a very good technical player.’
Words like those coming from someone like Sir Alex Ferguson reflects a great talent and a knack of performing at big stages. Along with Wilfried Zaha and Jesse Lingard he has been a starring attraction during Moyes’s first pre-season at Old Trafford. One way in which his performances have differed from those of his fellow colleagues is that he doesn’t have the look of an emerging talent desperately eager to catch the eye with his every touch. Which suggests that he is a fair player and quite a modest guy.
He has an elegant movement and a stubborn attitude for playing mostly with a left foot(like a Robin Van Persie). He has till now been deployed mostly at the flanks but his creative style and balance suggest more of a "made for central role" player. But still there is a lot of room for improvement and why not, the boy is only 18. And whether experienced or not, the talented youngster is a prospect of future and after his scintillating performance at the weekend, a lot of eyebrows have already been raised. And this time David Moyes should really act on time and not allow another academy star (like Pogba to Juventus) to leave the club in search of regular first team football.
