Sports Round Up : 12th October

It was another exciting day in the field of sports. With Japaneese Grand Prix tomorrow, we had action even in the field of F1. Let us take a look at the headlines today.

Cricket :
India A won the match against West Indies A by an innings and 54 runs.  India gained a huge lead in the first innings, thanks to Pujara’s double century. Though the West Indies looked to be in a fighting position at the end of the previous day, Zaheer Khan had other ideas today. He bowled exceptionally well, triggering a middle order collapse and finished off the tail without much trouble.

New Zealand started their second innings strongly, scoring 117 runs losing just a wicket on the way. But having a possible result was literally washed off by rain, as the day was called of just after tea. Nevertheless, it has been a good performance from both the teams, and unless any blunder from Bangladesh, this test match seems to head towards a draw.

Tennis :

It will be a Novak vs Del-Potro showdown at the finals of the Shanghai masters to be held tomorrow. While Novak was at his usual best against Tsonga, an inspired and on-form Del Potro looked determined, and unleashed powerful forehands to overcome the strong defense of Nadal. Both of them defeated their opponents by straight sets, without breaking much of a sweat.

Meanwhile, Del Potro has successfully qualified for the ATP world tour finals, after his win against Nadal.

F1 :

Mark Webber will start at the pole of the Japaneese Grand Prix tomorrow, after snatching it from the current drivers leader, Sebastian Vettel. Webber clocked a time of 1 minute, 30.975 seconds at the Suzuka circuit, with Vettel just under two-tenths of a second behind in second place after struggling with his KERS power-boost system.
