Road to Wimbledon in India
For making youths interested to take up tennis, the Wimbledon Foundation had launched Road to Wimbledon for the first time ever outside United Kingdom. Last year, the HSBC sponsored tournament was great success as it targeted boys and girls. The most sensational news of the day is out and it is here.
The tournament titled ‘Road to Wimbledon’ will be a new initiative which is taken to make sure that it results in finding young prospects from India who are practicing in their competitive levels, and as a host to the event, India will carve a niche by making the qualifying event of Wimbledon a success on the greater level . Initially before selecting India, China and Brazil were other competitors who were tested.
The event is made with the support and partnership of All India Tennis Federation (AITA). With the initiation of such an extravagant event, they hope to increase opportunities of junior players who hope to make big. There many tennis stadias in India and most major events like Asian Games, Commonwealth Games and Chennai Open had been played here in India.
If the qualifier of Wimbledon is played here then it will give rise to another glory in India. The tournament is expected to take place in Delhi and Mumbai and it is open to boys and girl who are 14 and under. The singles event in Delhi is expected to kick off on the 1st week of January and may be succeeded by yet another event in Mumbai and after which the Junior Masters is expected to fire at the prestigious renovated RK Khanna court in Delhi. The greatest news is that the finalists of the event will be invited to he UK National Finals that takes place at the All England Club, Wimbledon in the month of August 2014.
