Ranji Trophy Haryana v/s Mumbai: Sachin Tendulkar falls cheaply but Mumbai in control

For the last few days Lahli, a small town in Haryana has been under the spotlight for being the venue of Sachin Tendulkar’s last domestic game. There has been an unprecedented demand for tickets for the clash between Mumbai and Haryana which is surreal for a Ranji Trophy match.

However, Sachin Tendulkar disappointed the thousands of supporters who had turned out at Bansi Lal Stadium to see him when he was dismissed cheaply for just five runs on the opening day of the four-day clash between Mumbai and Haryana. There was lot of excitement to see Sachin bat among the local crowds but Tendulkar’s stumps were rattled by a Mohit Sharma delivery. The 40-year-old’s innings lasted just 7 balls. In his brief stay he hit his trademark straight drive for a four.

At the stumps, Mumbai were 100 for 4, trailing Haryana by only 34 runs. Ajinkya Rahane is batting on 44 runs with night watchman Dhawal Kulkarni giving him company.

Earlier in the day, Haryana were skittle out for a paltry 134 runs by the 40-times Ranji Trophy champions after Mumbai captain Zaheer Khan opted to field first. None of the Haryana top-order batsmen could contribute with tail-ender Mohit Sharma top scoring with 49 runs to give the score some respectability. Abhisekh Nayar was the pick of the bowlers for Mumbai taking up 4 wickets.
