Roger Federer goes down valiantly to Del Potro
Roger Federer, who fought well to reach the final, couldn’t make it through to win the trophy, as he lost to defending champion Del Potro in a hard fought 3 set final.
Del Potro, who has been on a roll this year, was at his usual best, firing his deep forehands at the ageing Federer, and won the first set comfortably. But nevertheless, the 32 year old swiss was determined, and levelled the game after winning the second set 6 games to 2.
Though the final set was pretty close, Del Potro successfully managed a break, and won the match pretty comfortably at the end. This is his fourth title, and Roger Federer’s dismal year continues.
The race to london continues as Roger Federer is yet to seal a spot. Though a single win at the Paris masters will be enough for him to qualify, the competition for the other two spots will be hard. Tsonga, Gasquet and Wawrinka will fight out for the final two spots, and it will be an interesting week at the Paris masters.
