The wizard named Özil has cast a spell on Arsenal

Something very strange has happened to Arsenal since Mesut Özil’s arrival at the club. For the first time in many years, Arsenal has looked like a real, proper football team, capable of challenging for titles and not prone to self-implosion at any minute. Mesut Özil has transformed Arsenal not only with his talent but also with the mentality that comes from the positive atmosphere his transfer created.
Arsenal’s recent performance - to the utter disbelief of many - has been stunningly clinical, in stark contrast to its mediocre display in the past. Özil is the sole variable, and it should be obvious that he has brought more than his own technical ability to the field of play. One change has been enough to instill a positive atmosphere about the club, and seems to have inspired the likes of Olivier Giroud into giving gutsy, spirited performances.
Real Madrid midfielder Xabi Alonso once described Özil as "the kind of player you don’t find these days," adding, "He understands the game, sees things, combines and thrives between the lines, unlocking teams," while José Mourinho compared him with Real Madrid legend Zinedine Zidane and said, "Özil is unique. There is no copy of him – not even a bad copy." No wonder several Real Madrid players were dissatisfied with Özil leaving the club, namely Cristiano Ronaldo who said: "He was the player who best knew my moves in front of goal…I’m angry about Özil leaving." Ronaldo was merely expressing the sentiments of Madrid fans, who were clearly dissapointed at Özil’s departure from the club.
Mesut Özil, however, has suggested he has found his perfect fit at Arsenal as he moves on from the acrimony that soured his departure from Real Madrid to thrive in London and the Premier League, which he described as the "strongest league in the world". Özil had said of his transfer: “At the weekend, I was certain I would stay at Real Madrid but afterwards I realised I did not have the faith from the coach or the bosses. I am a player who needs this faith and that is what I have felt from Arsenal, which is why I have joined."
When Robin Van Persie was at the club, Arsenal were still prone to hilarious errors, shocking complacency and unbelievable cowardliness, but the novelty factor of Mesut Özil - a world-class player in his prime joining the club for a large fee - seems to have added something magical. For now, Özil might just be bigger than the club.
