PREVIEW: HULL CITY v SUNDERLAND
Sunderland will be facing former manager Steve Bruce as they will be visiting Kingston communication stadium to face Hull city. Sunderland coming to this fixture after the derby win against Newcastle while Hull city had lost their previous two fixtures.
Hull who is surprisingly doing well in top flight is comfortably placed in 10th. Bruce’s men are also on unbeaten run of four home games collecting 8 points. However their record against Sunderland is poor losing each of the previous six meetings. Hull are hampered by lengthy injury list , added to when Alex Bruce and Aaron Mclean picked up problems during midweek capital one cup match with Tottenham in which they in penalty shootout. Goal keeper Allan McGregor and Centre-half James Chester remain on sidelines while Aluko and Brady are still doubtful. Aluko is battling a calf problem while Brady is yet to regain his full fitness. Robert Koren and Quinn could start after both returned to the hull side in capital one fixture. Harper is expected to deputise injured goal keeper McGregor.
Sunderland ended the run of six consecutive league defeats when they beat rivals Newcastle last weekend, which was the club’s first win under new boss Gus Poyet. Sunderland has no injury problems ahead of game. Poyet must decide whether to give Borini a place in starting lineup after his winning goal in last weekend. In borini black cats might just have brought in a regular match-winner, and in dispensing with, for now, some of the flashier excess of paolo di Canio’s summer shopping and reverting to the old guard-Lee Cattermole, Phil Bardsley and perhaps even the most forgotten of men Wes Brown. There might be just be a nucleus to the team to suggest the season is saveable amid the scorched earth left behind by previous man in charge. Sunderland now need to show that they are gathering some steam after last week’s first win of the season.
A win for tigers could move them as high as eighth whilst Sunderland could move within one point of Norwich and Stoke with the three points
