ENGLISH PREMIER LEAGUE PREVIEW: MATCH WEEK 11
ASTON VILLA v CARDIFF CITY
The Villans have struggled quite a bit lately, especially in being able to score. The have failed to score in their last 4 matches. Their last goals came in 3-2 home win over Manchester City. In this same time they have allowed four goals. In their last match against West Ham they had only 8 shots with 2 of them on target. Andi Weimann picked up a hamstring problem against West Ham and joins a long line of doubts. Gabby Agbonlahor may well be fit enough to return in the Austrian’s place but with Antonio Luna still sidelined Lambert may be forced to stick with back three. Fabian Delph should be fully fit enough this weekend. Villa will be looking at big Benetke to end their goal drought
The blue birds come into game week 11 with 12 points standing in 12th place. They have managed same amount of goals as Villa but had allowed one more goal, 13. David Marshall continues to lead the league in saves which will make life difficult for already struggling Villa. Malky McKay has very few injury concerns to contend with, as only summer signing Cornelius remains sidelined. The newly promoted side could name the same eleven that beat Swansea in Welsh derby. Aaron Gunnarsson is vying for place in midfield with Jordan Mutch, while Craig Bellamy will hope to stave off competition from Frazier Campbell.
CRYSTAL PALACE v EVERTON
Last week we saw crystal palace go down 2-0 to west Brom for their ninth loss of the season and seventh in a row. In those seven matches they allowed more than 2 goals and scored only twice. They are bottom of table with three points from their single win of the season. Guedioura picked up a nasty injury last time out, puncturing a lung and breaking two ribs, and he will be out for 6 weeks. Puncheon could come in on the wing with bannan moving infield. Palace has 4 long term absentees in Murray, Hunt, Williams and McCarthy.
Against Spurs on Sunday Everton came through with a 0-0 draw and kept another clean sheet. This keeps their decent start in place as they sit in 7th place with 19 points. Everton’s offensive tactics have been fairly good with average of 5 shots on target with 14 taken. Lukaku is doubt after being substituted last week after collision with Lloris. Heitinga is still out with injury and coul miss out once again. Kone is out for season, while Alcaraz and Gibson remain sidelined too. Baines Jageilka both are effective in defence while osmon, Barkley, Milner are doing their part in midfield.
LIVERPOOL v FULHAM
Liverpool comes into this game week after their loss against Arsenal. They remain in third place with 20 points, level with Chelsea. Their goal scoring has been what has carried them this season, especially after failing to keep a clean sheet in past seven matches. Gerrard has a hip problem but expected to be fit to face Fulham. Glen Johnson may be include in the team after missing fixture against Arsenal. Cissokho put in a below par display at Emirates and may struggle to hold onto his place in spite of Jose Enrique’s continued absence. SAS will be looking to fire after failing at Emirates.
The Cottagers season has not gone how they had hoped. It seems there are too many individual talents in the squad and not enough of team mentality. The did look little better in second half at Old Trafford, but this was after United already put 3 goals. They had been widely inconsistent and their defense is shaky this season. Martin Jol may ring the changes after slow start at old Trafford. Dejagah was poor and might be dropped. Hangeland is still on road to recovery but may make a trip to Anfield.
SOUTHAMPTON v HULL CITY
The saints remarkable season continued with their 1-1 draw at stoke city. A win would have taken them up as afar as second in the table, but for a shocking goal by Begovic. They have looked their best defensively and boast the second best defensive record in all of Europe. They have scored atleast one goal in their last six matches. Manager pochettino will be without Guly, while summer arrival Osvaldo is a doubt with nerve problem. Pochet is expected to name an unchanged squad. Fonte, Boruc and lovren are doing good and another clean sheet is likely on the cards.
Hull City has also started this season impressively and they currently sit 10 in points table. Their season has been rather up and down, but they have been able to string together several results. They had kept 4 clean sheets but have scored more than one goal only on single instance. They had 25 shots against Sunderland last weekend but only 2 of them are on target. Steve Bruce is expected to be without the services of McGregor, Chester, Aluko, while defender Alex Bruce is doubtful. Manager may name unchanged squad that faced sunderland.
NORWICH v WEST HAM
The Canaries are in dire form at the moment. In the past week they had allowed 11 goals to the Manchester clubs. They put their allowed goals tally to 20 with only six goals scored. In the past six matches they had kept only two clean sheets. The difficulty is they had also faced Arsenal, Chelsea, Manchester clubs. They shouldn’t be quite so bad against West Ham, but they have not scored more than one goal in a match since their draw against Everton. Wolfswinkel missed the clash against Manchester city but could return here. Redmond is carrying injury but may be back to face West Ham. Snodgross concussion is unlikely to keep him out for a second straight match.
This could be the match in which Allardyce finally tries to put up a striker instead of his 4-6-0 he’s used more recently. Carlton Cole is one player who could be given a shot upfront. In their last two matches they kept clean sheets, increasing their season tally to six. Kevin Nolan also has a chance to start as a striker, but hammers lacked cutting edge in attack against Aston Villa so Cole could be preffered. Jack Collison made his first start of the season last time out and could retain his spot in starting lineup. Hammers are undefeated in their last 7 outings aagainst Norwich some thing which could boost the confidence of hammers.
