Indian goalkeeper Subrata Pal to play in the Danish Superliga Football

India’s Number 1 goal-keeper Subrata Pal would be playing for Danish Superliga football club FC Vestsjaelland. The 26-year-old has been offered a six-month contract by the Slagelse-based club and has been asked to join the club on January 3rd, 2014. He has to be loaned by his current employers IMG Reliance for the deal to be completed successfully.

Nicknamed as FCV Vikings, FC Vestsjaelland is a very new club formed in 2008. They have qualified to the top tier this season and currently they are lying in the seventh postion in the 12-team Denmark league.

If everything goes through, Subrata Pal would become only the third Indian to play professionally in Europe since Bhaichung Bhutia’s stint with Manchester’s Bury FC from 1999-2002 and most recently, Sunil Chhetri’s tenure at Portugal’s Sporting Lisbon B in 2012.

The shot-stopper who started his career at Mohun Bagan has already amassed 68 caps for the Indian National team having made his International debut in 2007. Apart from Mohun Bagan, he has played for East Bengal, Pune FC and Prayag United. Subrata Pal had caught attention during the 2011 Asian Cup Football with some eye catching performances in the goal.
