Who is the best goalkeeper in EPL this season?
When you talk about Premier league, you do talk about goalkeepers. And when you talk about goalkeepers its not many of them who go down into history for giving game changing performances. The current season of league features keepers like Petr Cech who has been an eye witness and inseparable part of Chelsea’s most successful era, David De Gea who is turning out to be an excellent goalkeeper for Manchester United and others including Mignolet, Lloris, Hart and so on. Who has been the best goalkeeper in this season still seeks an answer as the season progresses.
Talking about Petr Cech,he has more than 300 appearances in Premier league and has helped the Stamford Bridge side to win three Premier League titles, four FA Cup, two League Cups and the Champions League and Europa League crowns. He still continues to be in good form and no doubt is Mourinho’s hot favorite .
Hugo Lloris is another name which constantly comes up in the race of best goalkeeper, as we have seen some brilliant performances from him for Spurs. The french international captain is known for his stunning reflexes and acrobatic skills. Some critics questioned Tottenham Hotspur’s decision to sign Lloris at the start of last season, but since then Lloris has never turned back.
Simon Mignolet is another sensation doing it brilliantly for Liverpool.A new signing for Liverpool, Mignolet has been key to club’s strong start to this season. With a penalty save on his debut, he is turning out to be the mainstay of the Red defense. The Belgian keeper has been fantastic this season and boasts of 32 saves in nine games and three clean sheets.
Among all, one keeper who has seen a meteoric rise is David De Gea. Very few could have expected this kind of impressive rise in his performance and consistency levels after the criticisms he had to face in first season .United’s defense has been vulnerable so far in this season, but Gea’s heroics in front of the net has prevented a Manchester united collapse and still makes it the hot favorites at League. There are numerous examples of his brilliant saves, one notably being the clash against Stoke ,where he almost single-handedly kept Manchester United in the game with a string of top notch saves before winning out 3-2 . The ‘number of goals per game’ for him has reduced considerably in the 2012-13 campaign from 1 to 0.93 vis-a-vis last year. With time he is developing into an outstanding shot-stopper, besides being agile and alert.
The current season has just entered into its twelfth week and still we have a lot of football to see. Its yet to be seen whether de Gia would continue with his magnificient form and how much capable Lloris would be to take his opponents down. Premier league has always been full of surprises and we might see some new faces in this race.
