Champions League Results Matchday 5: Group E-H

The Champions League football resumed on with Tuesday night with plenty of action. Let us look into the results:

Group E:

FC Basel defeated Chelsea for the 2nd time in the group stage with a 1-0 win. Mohamed Salah scored the only goal in Basel. But despite the defeat, Chelsea scraped through to the knockout stages of the Champions League. In the other Group E match, Steaua Bucharest managed to hold Schalke to a goalless draw. FC Basel now hold the second position behind Chelsea on 8 points while Schalke are a point behind on 7 points and they need to win against FC Basel in the last game in order to qualify to the knockout stages.

Group F:

The Group of Death has entered a fascinating stage with no teams havig qualified till now. Jack Wilshere struck twice to give Arsenal a 2-0 win over Marseille in Champions League Group F at the Emirates Stadium, but the Gunners are yet to secure a last 16 place. Arsenal occupy the first spot with 12 points. In the other game, Borussia Dortmund defeated Napoli 3-1 to keep their hopes alive. Both Dortmund and Napoli are on 9 points going into the final round.

Group G:

Already qualified Atletico Madrid were held to a 1-1 draw at Zenit St. Petersburg while Porto can only draw 1-1 at home against Austria Wien. Going into the final round, Zenit holds the second place on 6 points while Porto are a point behind in the 3rd place.

Group H:

Ajax Amsterdam caused a major shock by defeating Barcelona 2-1 in Amsterdam. AC Milan also got an invaluable 3-0 win at Celtic. Barcelona have already qualified and are on 10 points while Milan and Ajax occupy the 2nd and 3rd spot withe one point separating the two.
