English Premier League - Manchester United Vs Everton: Match Preview
Premier League matches are advancing thick and quick in December and we have another mouth watering fixture between Manchester United and Everton. Moyes having served Everton for 11 years as Manager, David Moyes will come up against the Merseysiders for first time on Wednesday night since he exited the club in the June through August time frame to assume responsibility of Manchester United.
Everton who are fifth on the league table is managed by Roberto Martinez, will travel to Old Trafford, while United are three places adrift in eighth.
The Toffees, last visit to old Trafford saw them losing the fixture 2-0 with Ryan Gigs and Robin Van Persie scoring the goals. However, times have changed since then, not least of all being David Moyes sitting in the opposite dugout.
There won’t have been many people at that point who would have predicted that Moyes’s new side would be below his former one in the Premier League table after 13 matches, however that is the way they head into this experience.
It is not known if Robin Van Persie will return to the United squad for the match, having sat out recent fixtures with groin and toe injuries. However, Phil Jones will miss out because of suspension, which could see a 40-year-old Ryan gigs recalled to the midfield alongside either Tom Cleverley or Marouane Fellaini.
Meanwhile, Martinez has no new concerns for the match. Only recent injury absentees Darron Gibson, Arouna Kone and Leighton Baines are not available.
The visitors have not won at Old Trafford since August 1992, when Peter Beardsley was among the goal scorers in a 3-0 victory.
It will be a battle of midfields, with both managers supporting the same philosophy of controlling the game by keeping possession of the ball and moving the opponents around the field. Everton with the blinding speed of Mirallas, Lukaku, Barkley and the evasive Pienaar are a definite threat. However, united with the rampaging duo of Valencia and Rooney, especially in the absence of Baines, should be strong enough to come out on top.
