Neymar or Bale: Who is the better bet?
Barcelona and Real Madrid set the transfer market on fire by securing the blockbuster deals for Neymar and Bale respectively. The challenge for both of them was to get over the astronomical transfer fees paid for them-even more so for Bale. Also the presence of Ronaldo and Messi meant that they would always be drawn into comparisons and would invariably be hidden in their shadows.
After a scrappy start for Madrid, Bale is starting to get his act together with eight goals in seven matches in November, including his first hat-trick for the club and carrying Madrid forward in the absence of CR7.
There is no doubt that Bale can play alongside Ronaldo, but what Bale is starting to prove is that he is worth the substantial fee Madrid paid to acquire his services by showing that Real can win without Ronaldo.
Barca, on the other hand are not looking at their best in the absence of Messi. Barcelona have now lost their last two games, neither featuring Messi, as they look elsewhere for goals. Neymar, although grabbing an assist in the 4-0 win against Granada, has not scored since Messi’s injury.
In comparison to Bale’s season thus far, Neymar has scored only five goals in 19 appearances - although he has claimed nine assists, whereas Bale has scored nine goals from 13 appearances and managed to grab six assists - a far more impressive record.
Neymar needs to get his act together as this is his moment to shine, now that the towering presence of Messi is not there, atleast till the end of 2013.
