Ribery: The Third best?
Ronaldo is unlucky to be playing in the era of Messi. Well there is Ribery who is even more unlucky to be playing in the era of Messi and Ronaldo.
Messi and Ronaldo are the best two players in World Football right now. And arguably Ribery is the 3rd.
Ribery aged 30 is probably at the peak of his career. A left sided midfield with blazing pace and added trickery is what defines Ribery. Add to it a knack of scoring some wonderful goals. He is more of a playmaker than a forward.
The best players in the world are scoring more goals than him but Ribery has scored more silverware.
He had won the Champions league last year with Bayern, the German league and the domestic cup. In 2013, he has scored 3 goals in the Champions league and 4 in the Bundesliga with 7 assists.
At Bayern Munich, Ribery is almost lost between a galaxy of stars like Robben, Schweitnsteiger and Gotze. The brightness of stars fade when placed among equally brighter ones and even more if some intend to compete rather than co-operate.
Remember Ronaldo,Figo, Zidane and Raul at Madrid; sadly, there can be only a single best player in the world.
The other thing that holds Ribery back is playing in the German league. In Germany, it is difficult to score goals and his competition scores goals at ease in Spain.
Add to this the high frequency of injury he suffers from .
The international circuit is probably a fare playing ground.
Once labelled as the ‘Jewel of French football’ by Zinedine Zidance, Ribery has started to live up to expectations in the French midfield. He put up an exceptionally performance against Ukraine to lead the French side to a 3-0 victory after being 2 goals down from the first leg.
Here is where Ribery stands out or he has a chance to stand out. He can lead a relatively inexperienced French team to glory next year in Brazil. His past performance with the national team is encouraging but not outstanding and Brazil will give him a chance to make amends.
Even if he does not shine in Brazil, Frankly Ribery has done enough to be the number 3 in the world far ahead of his teammates at Bayern, a certain German at Arsenal and certain Spaniards at Barcelona.
