India vs South Africa 2nd ODI: South Africa wins series with another convincing win over hapless India

India once again surrendered meekly as they were comprehensibly beaten by 134 runs by the host team at Kingsmead, Durban. It was another dismal performance from the Indians as they were bundled out for just 146 runs in 35.1 overs chasing a target of 281 runs. South Africa rode on centuries from their two openers Quinton de Kock and Hashim Amla posting a challenging 280 runs in a match reduced to 49 overs. In reply, Indian top orders again flopped against the fearsome bowling of the South African pacers as they folded up for 146 runs. None of the batsmen could build their innings with Suresh Raina top scoring for the Indians with 36 runs. For the Proteas’ Lonwabo Tsotsobe took 4, Dale Steyn took 3 and Morne Morkel took 2 wickets.

Earlier after winning the toss for the second time in the series, MS Dhoni invited the South Africans to bat first. But the plan backfired again as the South African openers added 194 runs for the first wicket in 35 overs before Quinton de Kock was dismissed but not before he scored his second consecutive century of the series. He scored 106 runs off 118 balls. Hashim Amla also scored his century and in the process, Amla became the fastest to score 4,000 ODI runs, achieving the feat in 81 innings, seven quicker than Viv Richards. But India did well to restrict the Proteas to 280 runs as none of other batsmen could score big. For the Indians, Mohamed Shami was again the pick of the bowlers taking 3 wickets for 48 runs.

The final ODI will be at Centurion on 11th December.

Brief Scores:

South Africa 280/6 (Quinton de Kock 106, Hashim Amla 100, Mohammed Shami 3/48)

India 146/10 in 35.1 overs (Suresh Raina 36, Lonwabo Tsotsobe 4/25, Dale Steyn 3/17)
