Whatever happened to Wilfried Zaha!!!
Wilfried Zaha, one of the hottest young talents in England was Sir Alex Ferguson’s last signing before he stepped down as manager of Manchester United. Zaha, signed from Crystal Palace for £15 million was supposed to be one of the star players of the season but he has gone into the cold since his move to Old Trafford. The 21 year old is a raw and brilliant talent, but so far David Moyes has not been convinced by his predecessor’s final signing. He had shown much promise during the clubs pre-season tour but that did not account for much as soon as the season started.
The former Crystal Palace winger made his England debut against Sweden last year but his lack of club games has seen him return to the Under-21 squad with a World Cup place looking a remote possibility.
He has found life hard at Old Trafford, falling out of favour with David Moyes and hardly getting any game time despite the inconsistent performances from the likes of Valencia, Young, et al. He has already fallen behind Antonio Valencia, Ashley Young, Nani, Danny Welbeck, Shinji Kagawa and Adnan Januzaj in the pecking order. United fans would love to see him racing up and down the wing in a red shirt, especially given Young’s loss of form but playing once a month isn’t going to help his development.
The 21 year old has been linked with a loan move to Newcastle for six months in January to gain some much needed game time and experience at the top flight. His case is not helped by rumours that he is facing difficulty in adjusting to life at a big club and that he still does not have the mental toughness to deal with life at the very top level.
Zaha is in the news for all the wrong reasons with rumours linking him to David Moyes’ daughter being associated as a plausible reason for his lack of game time for the Red Devils. Zaha had to take the help of social networking site twitter to rubbish the reports and stating that he would feature for the Red Devils whenever his manager deems him ready.
He urgently needs time on the field to get back his confidence and prove his worth to the Manchester United faithful. I think that he has a lot to offer to United but he has a hell lot to do to cement his place in the side.
