Boxing Day Special: Arsenal go top as Manchester City topples Liverpool
Manchester City defeated overnight league leaders Liverpool by 2-1 courtesy a howler from Liverpool goalie Simon Mignolet. The defeat took Liverpool down to 4th place while Manchester City went up the table and into the 2nd place behind Arsenal. Chelsea occupy the third position.
Manchester United lighted up the Boxing Day as they made an astonishing comeback to win 3-2 at Hull City from 2-0 down thereby continuing their recent good form in the Premier League. Arsenal returned to winning ways with a nervy 3-1 away victory over West Ham which pushed the hosts into the relegation zone. Chelsea also recorded an unconvincing 1-0 victory over Swansea City.
High-flying Everton were shocked 0-1 at home by bottom team Sunderland who have to thank their stars for somehow escaping from Goodison Park without receiving a single goal. Meanwhile Tim Sherwood’s first game in charge of Tottenham as the permanent manager could only result in a 1-1 draw at struggling West Bromwich Albion.
Crystal Palace continued their pursuit of Premier League survival under Tony Pulis as they defeated Aston Villa 1-0 thanks to a 90th minute goal by Dwight Gayle and they have now climbed above the relegation zone. Cardiff City’s free-fall continued as they were outclassed at home by Southampton. Fulham recorded a very important 2-1 win away at Norwich City but they are still in the relegation zone while Newcastle destroyed Stoke City 5-1 to continue their good form.
