Australian Open Day 6 : Another day in business for the Top Seeds

Continuing the trend, the top seeds had an another good day, with the likes of Nadal, Sharapova, Azarenka and Federer breezing past their opponents.

In the men’s draw, Rafael Nadal crushed possible challenger Gael Monfils 6-1 6-2 6-3, thus re-instating the fear among his opponents. Federer and Murray too had a good day, with both of them overcoming their opponents in straight sets. Meanwhile, the only possible upsets were that of Milos Raonic and Benoit Paire, both of them defeated by Grigor Dimitrov and Robert respectively. While this is Dimitrov’s best performance in a grand-slam,  Robert’s run into the last 16 is the best performance by a lucky loser in the Australian Open history. Meanwhile, Nishikori and Tsonga continued their good performance, as they breezed into the 4th round.

Meanwhile in the women’s draw, Azarenka had her best day at the AO this year, as she crushed Meusburger 6-1 6-0. Sharapova also had a good day, whereas Jankovic continued her good comeback by going into the 4th round. Other players who were victorious were A Radwanska, Sloane Stephens and D Chibulkuva. The only upset was that of Caroline Wozniacki, who was defeated by Spaniard Muguruza in 3 sets.

Today was another entertaining day of tennis at Melbourne. Things will get heated up as the tournament progresses into the 4th round tomorrow, with the likes of Djokovic and Tsonga coming into action.
