Australian Open Day 7 : Ana stuns Serena, Novak crushes Fognini.

Another entertaining day of tennis, and today witnessed possibly the upset of the tournament - Ana Ivanovic defeating Serena Williams in straight sets.

Meanwhile in the Men’s draw, Novak Djokovic and Thomas Berdych had little trouble overcoming their opponents Fabio Fognini and Kevin Anderson respectively. Both lost just 5 and 7 games respectively, with Novak losing just 10 points on his serve. Consistent David Ferrer booked himself an another quarterfinal spot, after overcoming Florian Mayer in 4 sets. And at the end of the day, Stan Wawrinka overcame Tommy Robredo in straight sets. Though the scoreline did not provide the justice to Robredo’s performance.

Meanwhile, in the women’s section, Ana Ivanovic caused possibly the biggest upset this year, as she ended Serena’s winning streak of 20-odd wins. It was a tight 3 setter, and after this encouraging perormance, Ivanovic will be considered as a serious contender this year. She will be facing teenager E Bouchard, who became the first Canadian quarter finalist in 20 years. In the other two matches, A Kerber was upsetted by Italian F Pennetta in 3 sets, whereas Li Na booked her quarter final spot with a ruthless 6-2 6-0 win over Russian E Makarova.

The second half of the 4th round matches will start tomorrow, with Andy Murray, Rafael Nadal and Roger Federer all in action.
