Adnan Januzaj: Is he Overhyped?
Adnan Januzaj. What a month he has had. Involved on a seemingly regular basis for David Moyes, the young talent repayed the faith shown by the former Everton manager, and Sir Alex Ferguson, by smashing in a double at Sunderland over the weekend. Sounds great but the furore that has occured after is quite unbelievable.
Adnan Januzaj can strike a ball and can play and credit to him for that, but does two goals against a team with one point in the league and bottom of the Premiership, make him the next best thing?
While he did show a good mix of pace, passing and an eye for goal, he has played only three professional games, and only stood out in one. For someone who has had so little game time, to go from zero to hero overnight is frankly puzzling. If too much pressure is put on him too early, then he is destined to fail.
alf-Time
A person who is key to Januzaj’s success is manager David Moyes, who must not overplay the youngster. Even if he is ready technically, if the 18-year-old Belgian is played too often, then he is far more likely to be blighted by injuries throughout his career. Exactly what has happened to Jack Wilshere, Lionel Messi and Michael Owen.
The goals at the Stadium of Light has changed everyones persepective of the young winger. The Football Association came out and indicated they wanted to take on the Belgian as part of the future England team, a feat that should they achieve, would mean Januzaj would not play for a national side until 2018. This clearly highlights the deficienies in this country as a whole and how if England do reach Brazil, it will all be for nothing. However that debacle is for another day.
Let me explain something for just a moment. At 18-years old Adnan Januzaj needs time to blossom. The young talent has potential and could go onto great things, however he may certainly go down the wrong path and we may all forget about him within a year. Does anyone remember Federico Macheda? The stunner to clinch 3 points against Aston Villa was followed by another goal in the following game, but never again did we see anymore from the Italian.
To conclude, while Januzaj may have shown early signs of class, there are many different things that can stand in the way of stardom. Poor management, injuries and pressure are just a few of many, so don’t be disappointed if he doesn’t turn out the way you had hoped.
