Hockey India League 2014: Delhi Waveriders defeats Punjab Warriors in the opening match
Australia’s Jason Wilson scored a brace as last year’s runners-up Delhi Waveriders defeated hosts Punjab Warriors 3-1 at Mohali in the inaugural match of the second edition of the Hero Hockey India League.
The Delhi side took the lead in the 29th minute through Talwinder Singh’s field goal to stun the large number of home crowd present. But Waveriders’ joy was shortlived as Affan Yousuf equalized for Warriors four minutes later. Jason Wilson restored Delhi’s lead in the 47th minute and the Waveriders sealed the contest in their favour when Wilson scored his second goal of the day just two minutes from the final hooter.
Apart from Delhi Waveriders and Punjab Warriors, Ranchi Rhinos, Mumbai Magicians, Uttar Pradesh Wizards and Kalinga Lancers are the other teams in the competition.
