YOU GET TO BUY HIM IF YOU PAY 4O MILLION EUROS TO HIS DAD, PLEASE
Recently there is a lot of fuss surrounding the transfer fee of Barcelona’s star striker Neymar da Silva Santos Júnior. The news made headline when one of the Barcelona’s own Jordi Cases, a Barca member, lodged a complaint against the club, that led to judge Pablo Ruz to investigate paperwork encompassing Neymar’s deal. Officially, affidavit released by the club states Neymar cost them €57.1 million Euros, but a former employee of the wonder boy from Santos proclaims they have only received €17.1m Euros , and what has really transpired to the remaining cash remained to be a conundrum to be solved . Neymar’s switch is the largest embezzlement in transfer history, which has led to the resignation of Barca’s club president Sandro Rosell last week.
Rosell added latest twist in the remarkable transfer saga which apart from causing huge embarrassment to the Spanish champions has also shown insights towards the dark side of the multi-million pounds global transfer industry. In a statement, Rosell said, “Everything we have said about Neymar transfer is correct”. However, one needs to ponder why did he step out???? News from the Spanish media claims he has received threat to his family forcing him to resign.
The Club’s new president Joseph Maria Bortemu, who was appointed last Friday has huge assignment in front of him to salvage the club’s honor which is at stake. He immediately gave a power point presentation on the transfer of the century – Neymar’s move from Santos to Barcelona, one that landed the club with judicial investigation, which eventually led to termination Rossell. In response to the legal inquiries clinging on the club’s back, Bortemu took unparallel steps by revealing every minute detail of catchy transfer saga which included the transfer fee and star player’s salary.
It has strongly been speculated that the deal included a €40m payment to Neymar’s parents Neymar sr and Nadine via their company N&N – and Friday’s statement provided the official confirmation. The Spanish media claims the extra €40m has potentially landed Barcelona in difficulty. Rosell explained it as a penalty for taking the player one year ahead of the time set out in the original contract, but if this reason for paying out so much to a company with such close links to the player is not accepted by the judge, then Rosell could be charged with misappropriation of funds, an offence outlined in Article 252 of Spanish law and one that could carry a prison sentence. Spanish newspaper El Mundo says a payment of €2m to Neymar’s father for scouting in Brazil; a payment of €4m to “Fundació Neymar Jnr” to link Neymar’s image to Barcelona’s in Brazil; a €7.9m deal with Santos concerning academy players. All these deals are admitted on the Barcelona website (though they omit the figures), and further there is also an alleged payment of €2.5m to a Neymar foundation set up to help poor neighborhoods’ in Sao Paolo.
Barcelona had denied that all these contracts have nothing to do with buying of Neymar. If the above is the case then the Spanish taxman may come under picture. Another interested party in the Neymar investigation’s outcome will be the player investment fund, DIS Esporte, which acquired 40 per cent of Neymar’s transfer rights while he was at Santos and which received that cut only from the €17.1m transfer fee the Brazilian club say they charged Barcelona. DIS, too, may pursue Barcelona now if they have reason to believe that the final fee has been inflated by the additional contracts. According to Times of India, the transfer cost Barcelona a mammoth figure of 118 million Euros’.
A new light has been portrayed in front of us which shows us the dicey and often hidden world of international transfer market.
