Can Arsenal sustain a title challenge without their apparent transfer window inactivity?
As the Arsenal’s only signing in January, Kim Kallistrom turned out to be injured, the fans along with other football followers and experts have one important question in their mind, Can Arsenal sustain a title challenge without their apparent transfer window inactivity?
With Chelsea defeating Manchester City at Etihad recently, Arsenal moved back again two points clear at the top of the table. But still, looking at the tough fixtures for Arsenal in the month of February and March, which includes two games against Liverpool and Bayern Munich each followed by a match each against Manchester City and Manchester United, things look a little more than difficult for Arsene Wenger’s boys.
The long injury list, which always has been a problem for Arsenal, might come into in effect this year too. Their injury setback includes Walcott who is out for the rest of the season, and also long term injuries to Ramsey, Rosicky, Sanago would definitely make Wenger scratch his head.
With Arsenal lacking an out and out striker apart from Giroud and Walcott’s injury happening before the transfer window, the fans expected Wenger to buy a striker, he tried too, getting Draxler from Schalke, but eventually failed at end. Wenger has now only two strikers in his squad, Giroud and Bendtner. The mid-field and defense of Arsenal looks quite decent with Arteta, Flamini, Ozil, Wilshere, Mertasacker, Koscielny, Sagna and Gibbs all continuing their good run of form.
A striker or any other great signing like Ozil could have any day brought a boost to the squad and also to the fans, but still we can’t just say that Arsenal cannot sustain the title race. They still have a very good team, they are still at the top and if they continue to play decent football in all the rest of their games, we might see Arsenal finally ending their long trophy drought by winning the EPL this season. And being an Arsenal fan, I would definitely want that to happen.
