EPL Match Report- The Red Devils vs The Cottagers- Pride at stake
It was a match in which the honor of the previous year champions Manchester United was at stake, and it eventually ended in utter disappointment for the red devils in their own backyard Old Trafford. Every time when United steps out at their own home ground they are expected to win but lately their form is a big question mark. After back to back defeats at the hand of Chelsea and Stoke city, Manchester United needed a win to get back on track and be the contenders for top four in the premier league.
It couldn’t have been more frustrating. United had vast swathes of possession and heaped pressure on Fulham’s deep-lying defense but something fundamental was missing – conviction and belief in front of goal maybe, or just bad luck? Earlier on Old Trafford had feared another famous defeat in David Moyes’ debut season when Steve Sidwell volleyed home. However, it was a sign of the times that the Theatre of Dreams went crazy when Carrick fired United ahead against a woeful Fulham side on 80th minute.
Two goals in two minutes from Robin van Persie and Michael Carrick looked to have the Premier League champions on course for victory until the Cottagers loanee popped up at the death. Fulham substitute Darren Bent plunged Manchester United into further despair as he rescued the relegation candidates a point with a last-gasp equalizer. The hosts controlled the game but frequently looked devoid of ideas, instead resorting to 81 crosses over the 90 minutes, more than any other Premier League team has managed in a single game this season.
As for the star men I do feel the game lacked an outstanding performer but at various points Carrick, Wayne Rooney and Juan Mata did their best to carve out opportunities. Carrick should really have been credited with giving United all three points, if only the Reds had been able to see the match out. Nemanja Vidic, fresh from his announcement of leaving United at the end of the season, looked distracted and his wandering mind was punished when Lewis Holtby’s cute floated ball picked out the Fulham captain to side foot past David de Gea on 19th minute.
One more thing I founded that tactically David Moyes could have done better, there was no point in substituting Rafael and bringing on Valencia to play at a position in which he is not accustomed with, Moyes needs to get his fact straight every time Valencia steps in as an right back Manchester united have lost matches in this season. (Against Everton, Fulham), and u don’t bench your star performer the only glowing prospect for Manchester United this year Adnan Januzaj , Ashley Young the left winger form this season is not up to the mark and playing him ahead of Adnan was not right.
Overall it was a match which was full of frustration for Manchester United the offering of a morale-boosting win was snatched away at the last when Darren Bent pounced and scored a splendid goal for Fulham. The Red Devils must learn from their mistakes and should hope for the best for remaining season.
