India returns to international Olympic fold after IOC lifts ban

The International Olympic Committee (IOC) lifted the 14-month old ban on India today after the Indian Olympic Association (IOA) barred charge-framed officials from its fresh election held on Sunday in which World Squash Federation chief and younger brother of BCCI boss N Srinivasan, N Ramachandran, was elected as the president and All India Tennis Association chief Anil Khanna becoming treasurer in polls which marked the exit of corruption-tainted Abhay Singh Chautala and Lalit Bhanot from the IOA.

The three athletes from India who are participating in the Sochi Winter Olympics, luger Shiva Keshavan, Alpine skier Himanshu Thakur and cross-country skier Nadeem Iqbal had to walk behind the IOC flag last Friday in the opening ceremony because of the suspension.
