IPL Auctions 2014 Day 2 : Highlights
After an exciting tug-of-war for players in the day 1, the day 2 and the last of the IPL Auctions 2014 was a bit less flamboyant compared to the first day, but the auction of un-capped players and some other international stars made the day equally interesting as the first day. The biggest news makers of the day were all rounders Karan Sharma and Rishi Dhawan, who were sold for a whopping 3.75 and 3 Crore Rupees. Here is a team wise highlights of the day two of the IPL Auction 2014.
Delhi Daredevils bags big-fish Ross Taylor, buys back Nadeem and Kedar Jadhav : After spending the money wisely to build a core team around Kevin Pieterson,DD was one of the best buyers today, as they bought in-form Ross Taylor. Also, they used both their Right-to-buy back cards on Shahbad Nadeem and Kedar
Jadhav(both for 2 Crore Rupees), snatching both of them from SRH. Their other profilic buys today include that of Wayne Parnell and Mayank Agarwal for a price of 1 Crore and 1.6 Crores respectively.
SRH consolidates the strong team with quality domestic buys : SRH, who were on a roll yesterday, decided to consolidate their local strength. Their buys include Karan Sharma and Parveez Rosol(for 3.75 Crore Rupees and 95 Lakh Rupees respectively), and former DD/RR player Naman Ojha. But one of their most interesting buys
today was that of A Srikkanth, who was bought by 20 Lakh Rupees by none other than his father, Kris Srikkanth.
CSK relatively quiet, but bags Ishwar Pandey : CSK, surprisingly were quiet yesterday, and the situation was no less different today. But they did manage to bag one of the most talented Indian pacer nowadays, Ishwar Pandey, for a price of 1.5 Crore Rupees. Their other good buys include that of young-talented Baba Aparjith, domestic veteran Mithun Manhas and Aussie John Hastings.
MI builds a talented squad around experienced players: MI, usually has gone neck to neck with any teams while auctioning, has been quieter in this auction, except for the
big grab of Corey Anderson. But today, they have made their motive clear :- to build a young team comprising of domestic talents. But nevertheless, they have spent some quality money on buying Aditya Tare(1.6 Crore), Jaspreet Bumrah, and Jalaj Saxena. The nternational players MI bought today were Merchant De Lange(30 Lakh Rupees) and Ben Dunk (20 Lakh Rupees)
KXIP brings back their domestic main-stays : Gurukeerat Singh and Mandeep Singh, who has been amongst the best domestic players for KXIP, were re-bought today for a combined price of 2.1 Crore rupees. But their main buy was that of Rishi Dhawan for 3 Crore Rupees, who was in tremendous form in the Ranji Trophy recently. Their other buys include Beure Hendricks and Murali Karthik(who showed his frustration of not getting bought in twitter, yesterday)
Rajasthan maintains their usual strategy : Buy as many domestic players as possible - was the motto Rajasthan followed today. Some of their quality buys include that of Rajat Bhatia, Dhawal
Kulkarni and youngster Unmukt Chand. They bought back Kevon Cooper for a very cheap 30 Lakh Rupees, and used the Right-to-Match card on Pravin Tambe, who was excellent for them last year.
KKR intensifies their already goodlooking squad : KKR strengthened their strong squad by buying the likes of Manish Pandey(1.7 Crore), Ryan Ten Deschote(1 Crore) and Manvinder Bisla. Also, their pace
squad looks more threatening after buying the talented but injury prone youngster Pat Cummins, for 1 Crore rupees. Their other international buys include Chris Lynn and Andre Russel.
RCB plays it safe : A day after they bought Yuvi for a whooping 14 Crores, RCB were more concentrated on buying some good quality domestic players. Shadab Jakati and Vijay Zol were their best buys today.Surprisingly, they used their right to match card on Harshal Patel, who had been living in a shadow of the star-studded lineup.
And thus concludes the IPL 2014 auction, whereing bid-wars were fought with quite an amount of drama and controversy. Now it is time to wait for 2 months until the IPL action eventually starts, and see how effective these buys were for the respective teams.
