Quick Thoughts Before SA vs Aus 2nd Test
The first test was extremely one-sided, thanks to the hurricane named Mitchell Johnson. Ask Ryan Mclaren as to how it feels to get hit by a 150km/hr bouncer. Such was the impact that he is ruled out of the second test. But nevertheless, the SA team is No 1 team for some reason, and a hard comeback from them will be expected in the second test, which will start today. Here are some thoughts before the 2nd test.
Mitchell Johnson will look to dominate : After out-performing the World No 1 and No 2 bowlers in the first test, a similar performance could be expected from Johnson. If a bouncy pitch awaits him at Port Elizabeth, then SA have many reasons to be afraid of, despite of Graeme Smith’s claims.
SA openers need to negotiate Johnson : With Alviro Peterson out of second test, Quinten De Kock is all set to make his test debut. But the younster, along with Graeme Smith, will have to face the fiery opening spells of Mitchell Johnson and Ryan Harris. Patience is the key for success. If the openers manage to stick around for 10 or so overs, then a huge score can be expected for SA.
AB Devillers will be the key for SA : AB was the sole silver linning in SA’s dreadful batting performance in the first test. His performance will possibly decide the outcome of the second test.
SA bowlers must step up : SA bowlers were clueless in their second innings, wherein Warner and Doolan made merry out of them. Dale Steyn needs to step up, especially when his Australian compatriot Mitchell Johnson is breathing fire.
Doolan or Watson? The Dilemma arises : Doolan’s excellent debut performance has seriously questioned Watson’s place in the team. Here lies the dilemma which Clarke faces. Will he go with All-rounder Watson, who’s bowling is definitely an asset? Or will he go with Doolan, who looks technically sound at the No 3 spot? We will have to wait and see.
Australian middle order must be consistent : Batting collapses are overlooked by some excellent bowling, but it could be heavily exposed if their bowlers have a bad time. Clarke looks a bit out of form off late. His contribution will be necessary for Australia to come up with good score against the bowling attack of SA.
With the start of the second test just moments away, a cracker of a test match can be expected. All eyes will be on Mitchell Johnson, the man of the moment. Can Team Australia continue their dream run? Or will they be stopped by the World No1 South Africa? All will be answered on coming 5 days at Port Elizabeth.
