Can Felix Magath rescue the Cottagers:-
This season the Whites have made a lot of fuss rather headlines outside the football pitch. We are talking about sacking of Fulham manager Meulensteen and appointment of German manager Felix Magath by giving him a contract of 18 months. The news came as no surprise that Fulham F.C sacked Meulensteen as the club under him has not performed and they are now serious contenders for being relegated. Under the Dutchman the club last won on January 1 against West Ham.
Fulham have rolled the dice one last time in the 2013-14 seasons. Felix Magath took over last Friday at Craven Cottage with the small task of keeping the Premier League’s basement club in the top flight. There have been a lot of reports claiming he can do it with just as many to the contrary. The situation on the banks of the Thames looks dire. Fulham have been playing terribly all season with their previous two bosses - manager Martin Jol and head coach Rene Meulensteen - managing an identical league record: 10 points from 13 games. That is not good enough and now the Whites need closer to 20 points from 12 games to even stand a chance. According to Rene the club management always feared and they pressed the panic button quite immediately. Every manager who enters in to a new club needs time to settle down , but management have sacked Rene just after 75 days when he was appointed as the Fulham boss , same was the plight with JOL. Instead of believing the manager they have appointed a new manager who doesn’t have any prior experience of managing a football club in England, moreover every time if u appoint a new man the stability of the team gets broken.
The biggest aspect of Magath’s management style that has been highlighted is his discipline. Some reports have claimed that his tough training regime has led to players complaining about his management style, while others hold him in high regard for getting the best out of a squad at hand. And this is the key point. He has no transfer window and a squad compiled by two previous regimes, so getting them singing from the same hymn sheet is the first battle. If he wins that quickly then he might succeed. Another criticism of Magath is that he has not previously managed in England. He has only - and only is used in a very loose sense - won titles and saved other clubs from certain relegation in Germany.
According to me if we retrospect the clubs there are problems. The major hindrance for Fulham is their defense. They have opted to strengthen and revitalize their squad in January but decided to focus on midfield and attack rather than bolster the back line. It seemed a strange decision from the outset, given that they have conceded 58 goals in 26 Premier League matches so far this season, by far the worst in the division, with an alarming goal difference of -32. Brede Hangeland’s absence through injury was a major hindrance and much now depends on Magath working with the Norwegian and the new signing John Heitinga on the training ground to form a solid central partnership. Dan Burn has shown promise but lacks the experience for a relegation battle, while the midfield needs to give greater protection to the back four. Moreover The German should bring the best out of Lewis Holtby if he wants to save the club from relegation. Further I do think the manager must support the Greek striker Kostas to start firing.
With a bit of luck and support from their fans I do believe that The Whites will start performing under Magath.
