Why Chelsea would win the Premier League this season?
"Blue is the color, football is the game,
We’re all together, and winning is our aim,
So cheer us on through the sun and rain,
‘cause Chelsea, Chelsea is our name."
If you are the happiest fan in the Premier league, you must be chanting these for the Blues. With just two out of the next eleven matches against sides in top 4, the Premier League Cup seems to be within Chelsea’s touching distance.
Any observer would easily guess the main reason for the side’s recent form. The moment when Jose Mourinho announced his comeback, the belief of a Premier League victory was evident amongst the fans as well as the team. Within just few months, he transformed the team into an indomitable, strong and consistent side. Never easy for a manager having a lot of pressure from fans, owners and even the players. But that is why he is called the ‘Special One’. He knows what it takes to win the Premier League. From the exploits on the pitch to the theatrics on the touchlines, to the mind games in press conferences, Mourinho is the master of everything. The transfer of Juan Mata, stunned not only the football pundits but also the Chelsea fans. For Mourinho, it was the culmination of a strategy organized by him to sell on the club’s "player of the year for the past two seasons" to another club that he believes to be out of the title race and who will play Chelsea’s rivals. One may argue that the techniques he uses is unfair. But, that is Jose Mourinho and his unique style.
He has been the key for the Blues, and if someone from the team has played the perfect role asked by his manager, it has been Eden Hazard. The Belgian has used his pace, skills and mastery to the full effect. More importantly he has been able to reflect his manager’s tactics through his deft touches and an unbelievable vision for the game. There was a time when the focus was only on Chelsea’s back four with Terry leading from the front. Although the defense lineup has not changed much, the team looks dominating in its offensive approach as well.
The team has the best mixture of youth and experience in the league. Probably the only area the side has to improve is the striker’s position. This may also be due to the poor form of Torres or the inability of Demba Ba to fit in the team’s play. Probably, the crucial goals scored by Samuel Eto have been the only positives for Mourinho. But given Eto’s age and fitness, Mourinho’s quest for a proper striker may continue. But he must feel safe for this league at least, with the Brazilian duo of Oscar and Ramires upping the ante and pressing forward at times. The recent recruitment of Matic has strengthened the midfield alongside Lampard and on paper, Chelsea look one of the most threatening teams.
Although rivals Manchester City and Arsenal are closing on the marginal difference in points, Chelsea can still retain their top position, given the tough fixtures for other teams. The only difficult Away match for the Blues is against Liverpool. Apart from that, if Chelsea can be persistent with their form, a repeat of the Premier League victory under Jose Mourinho might be just around the corner.
